Macedonia Square is the main public square of Skopje and the city's natural gathering place for celebrations, protests and grief. In October 2007 it became the place where the capital mourned Toše Proeski.

As soon as the news of his death spread on 16 October 2007, people began arriving on the square with candles, flowers and handwritten messages. Photographs taken over the following days show the ground covered with tributes and large portraits of the singer. The same scenes were repeated in squares in other Macedonian towns and in cities across the former Yugoslavia.
The square has been extensively remodelled since then, but for many residents of Skopje it remains linked to those days.
Public concerts, national celebrations and commemorations. On 16 October fans sometimes gather informally here and on the nearby Art Bridge.
